What is The Black Box?

The Rolling Stones... where do you start and when will they end? Yeah, it's time to hang it up boys. Charlie's death (for me anyway) is where the party stops. The world's oldest Rock & Roll band (I won't say greatest because depending on how I feel when asked, my answer will change daily)...

I was born in 69 and I was raised on The Beatles, The Ventures, 60's psychedelic pop 45's like 96 Tears by "Question Mark & The Mysterians" "Dirty Water" by The Standells... and of course The Rolling Stones (thanks Dad). I was blessed with a cool father who would play his LP'S and 45's all the time. I remember he had a stack of 45's that he would load up on the phonograph and I would be drawn in and hypnotized by watch the tower of 45's drop, one by one until the 10 or 15 singles were finished. I would watch the turntable spin and I would dance and be 100% entertained. ...
So you get it by now, I hope. I grew up listening to great music and to this day, watching a band or listening to music always reminds me of my childhood and my Dad's awesome record collection that I destroyed as a child. Yep..all those originally 45's are long gone and I tore them up like an idiot because I really didn't ever think they would be worth anything and my Dad never thought in years ahead when it came to the preservation of those 45's. Luckily He still has those Ventures and Beatles LP'S...

I grew up in a Beatles household and even though The occasional Stones 45 would drop on the turntable (one in particular "Get Off My Cloud" b/w "I'm Free") and my Dad would do his Jagger imitation (which looked more like Don Knotts on crack). My first Rolling Stones LP  ("Between The Buttons") was given to me (along with The Mothers Of Invention "Freak Out")  by my Uncle. All the Men in my family were into music. My Dad and My Cousin were big influences on me musically. My Uncle had LP'S but he was more of the casual listener who had records to play when chick's came over. I remember his records and it made total sense why he was giving those two LP'S to me. He wasn't a Zappa or Stones guy.

So even though I was well aware of The Stones and who they were and the titles of their LP'S.. I never truly got deep into them until the mid 90's. I was living in Austin and just so happened I ended up meeting and then living with Michael Chandler, the singer of The Raunch Hands. I had no idea he was even in that band until a year or so. He never bought it up until one day we were having some drinks and I started playing EXILE ON MAIN STREET and bought out my guitar and started playing along with "Rocks Off". He had never really heard me play and apparently I impressed him. We started talking about bands and The Stones ...somehow He bought up his old band and that he had sang for this band called " The Raunch Hands" and as I was discovering all these things about him he bought up a bootleg  CD called " The Black Box" and his friend Michael Mariconda had a copy. Eventually I heard The Raunch Hands, met Mariconda and eventually he bought The 5 disc set over and my mind was blown. It's one of the best, if not the best Rolling Stones Collections. It's nothing but Outtakes and alternative mixes (and a few never released songs) that span from very beginning to 74. There are a couple of different versions of it as well.

You have to also appreciate the time that this came out. It was 100% a bootleg CD box set and this was 96 and a few years before the internet, mp3s, and the ability to burn your own CD'S. I saw it at a couple of record shows and it was between 50 to 75 bux and I've seen 3 or 4 different versions of it. Most of them had the same songs, some had less songs, and some would have an extra 6th disc of live stuff. So what I have done with the magic of Soulseek and checking out the different versions on the internet, I've put together what I think are the essential tracks from The Black Box. One last thing is that on every version of The Black Box cds they would have different Outtakes of some of the same songs, some songs would be just the instrumental versions or a German version. So what I have done is picked what I feel are the best versions of the songs and which in return cuts the whole thing down to a little over 3 hours.
It's a fantastic 3 hours worth and by chance you are just now getting into the heart and soul of The Rolling Stones and you found my blog and this comp? You're Welcome!!

Pay attention to the track "HIGHWAY Child" and prepare to hear The Stones sound like The Stooges.  Enjoy and R.I.P. to my old roommate and dear friend during those years Michael Chandler. I miss ya dude..

R.I.P. Teresa Taylor Nervosa Drummer of The Butthole Surfers Dead @ 60

She had been sick for the past couple of years. I met her briefly a couple times throughout the years and had some small exchanges on Facebook when she would post about her health and ask friends and fans about what movies she should check out.
It's sad to see anyone of my musical influences lives come to an end, however that is a harsh reality when they start hitting their 50's and up. She blew my mind several times watching her perform. If you were lucky enough to be alive and able to see The Butthole Surfers perform in the mid to late 80s and early 90's you were never the same afterwards. It's something that no other band has ever accomplished or ever will. The closest I have ever seen was Crash Worship and that was a whole different kind of experience but had a similar vibe.

DEPRESSION SESSIONS

It's been a rough couple of weeks. I'm battling some very heavy depression and I am considering going to get some inpatient treatment. I apologize for not keeping up with the blog the past week, however I posted so much content in May that you should have more than enough to check out. I'm feeling a little better today so I am going to put some things up and have some posts set up in advance. If for some reason I do end up getting checked in somewhere, I will let you all know.

Please put me in your thoughts and prayers, well wishes, VooDoo rituals...etc. I'm dealing with some dark mental issues and the last thing I want to do is hurt my Family and friends.

Micranots - Obelisk Moments (2000)

Wow! It's been 23 years since this came out. Sadly this is one of the last O.G. style Hip-hop records. Yeah, there still are people who do it this way but now it gets called underground Hip-hop which is ridiculous. If you're still scratching your head wondering WTF is Slanderbob talking about, I'm talking about the standard formula, 1 or more MCee's and a DJ / Producer, samples and beats, very little extra instrumentation. New Kingdom is another example of great Hip-hop duos that were just a little too late. Hip-hop today, at least the mainstream stuff leaves hardly any trace of that formula. So without getting to far into a rant, just listen. What you will hear is nothing short of what should have been a hit. There's not a stinker on it and if you were smart enough to buy the vinyl? 3 LPS to fit this masterpiece on wax. Enjoy.

REN & STIMPY MARATHON

REN & STIMPY MARATHON
(featuring Happy Happy Joy Joy : The Ren & Stimpy Story)

via GIFER

Remember when you would get baked with your friends, family, or significant others and watch Ren & Stimpy marathons before we found out that creator and Animator John K was a creep?  Yeah, I know....Well, let's focus on how awesome the show was.

On Memorial Day Weekend 2023 I streamed the entire 1st two seasons of Ren & Stimpy, Ren & Stimpy's Adult Cartoon Party as well as some extra Spumco goodies (end of Part Two). This is the archive of that broadcast.

PART ONE starts off with The Documentary about the show "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy ; The Ren & Stimpy Story" and believe it or not. John K agreed to be interviewed and he addresses the creep stuff as well. I'm not condoning his behavior, however I will give him props for not being a coward and talking about it and facing his actions. I can't change what he did to ruin his career, and I as I said, I don't condone his actions.

I'm also not going to ignore the show because of issues and controversy outside of the show itself. You can't cancel whats already been done. MANY people worked on the show and put in long hours of hard work to entertain us. He may have been the creator but he isn't the lone ranger here either. It was an amazing show and It's a shame he sunk to the levels he did. Wanna know more? You can Google it or watch the documentary. As much as I hate Buzzfeed and other garbage journalism websites, they did an awesome job reporting the John K stuff.

Download / Stream Part One

Starts off with The Documentary, Season One and some of Season Two UNCUT with all the bits and pieces that Nickelodeon had cut from the broadcasts.

Download / Stream Part Two

The continuation of Season Two (UNCUT) followed by Ren & Stimpy's Adult Cartoon Party and the last hour John K's Yogi Bear & Ranger Smith Cartoons, and some other surprises.
